Marcia trained as an actor at The Drama Centre in London, England, and began her career at the Royal Court Theatre before working in a number of regional theatres. In North America she has appeared at: The Stratford Festival; The Kennedy Center, on Broadway, at the Ensemble Theatre of Cincinnati,  Arena Stage, Buffalo, The Citadel Theatre Edmonton, Theatre Plus, Toronto; ATP, Calgary; Stage West, Theatre Calgary; and Neptune Theatre in such roles as Lady Macbeth in Macbeth, Madame de Tourvel in Les Liasons Dangereuses; Stella in A Streetcar Named Desire, as well as numerous TV, radio and commercial appearances.

Marcia is also an award winning, internationally produced published playwright. She currently has two plays running in repertory in Warsaw, two upcoming productions in China, as well as productions in the US and the premiere of her new play, A Belly Full, upcoming in 2019 in the UK. She is the a writer of several works including the highly successful farce WHO’S UNDER WHERE? (co-written with Doug Hughes) which has since received more than one hundred productions in eight countries and five languages. Also in partnership with Mr. Hughes,  A PARTY TO MURDER which has enjoyed numerous productions in Canada, the U.S and the U.K. FOR THIS MOMENT ALONE has recently been published by Dramatists.

In addition to writing and acting, Marcia is also an accomplished director. Directing credits include: For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again, Rumors, Annie, White Christmas for Neptune Theatre, Humble Boy, Syringa Tree, The Price, The Diary of Anne Frank  for Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre, Tuesdays With Morrie, Educating Rita, The Diary of Anne Frank for The Segal Centre, Montreal, Ben Elton’s Popcorn, Zadie’s Shoes for ATP, Doubt, Forever Plaid, The Full Monty, The Sound of Music, Blackbird for Theatre Aquarius,  Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure for The Grand Theatre, Who’s Under Where, Boeing Boeing, Run for Your Wife, Cash on Delivery,Too Many Cooks and See How They Run for Drayton Entertainment.  She was honored to have been chosen to lead a new creative team in the re-envisioning of the long-running Anne of Green Gables at the Charlottetown Festival where she spent 4 seasons. Recently she directed the U.S. /Canadian Tour of Saturday Night Fever.  She was the director/ dramaturge for the new Canadian musical, Prom Queen, at the Segal Centre, Montreal. ?

Shaun Smyth

/_uploads/images/instructors/Shaun.jpg?a=c|38-177-211-260Shaun is an award winning actor of film, TV and theatre. Born in Scotland, Shaun came to Canada as a child. He plays the bagpipes and has led pipe bands and taught extensively. He has performed at nearly every major theatre from coast to coast and in the US and has appeared in numerous television series and films. He portrays Theo Fluery in Playing With Fire, a one man show performed entirely on skates, that has garnered over 20 Awards across the country. 

Shaun has performed leading roles at the Stratford Theatre Festival, Canadian Stage, Theatre Aquarius, Crow’s Theatre, Buddies In Bad Times, Birdland Theatre, Young People’s Theatre, Necessary Angel, Centaur Theatre, Grande Theatre-London, Belfry, Vancouver Playhouse, The Cultch, Citadel Theatre, Catalyst Theatre, Phoenix Theatre, Mayfield Theatre, Alberta Theatre Projects, Theatre Calgary, One Yellow Rabbit, Calgary Shakespeare in Park, Persephone Theatre, Globe Theatre, Manitoba Theatre Centre, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Neptune Theatre, Atlantic Theatre Festival, Confederation Arts Centre. Tafelmusik: Santa Barbara Playhouse, Walt Disney Theatre Los Angelos, La Jolla Playhouse, Tour Australia/ New Zealand/ Houston/ New York. Shen most recently starred in the The Invisible Hand at Theatre Aquarius.

His selected film and television credits include featured and regular roles in Fringe, The Killing, Once Upon A Time In Wonderland, Almost Human, Arrow, Witchs of East End, Murdoch Mysteries, Probablity, F/X: The Series, Different, The Promise, Cruel Justice, Three to Tango, Steal The Movie, Relic Hunter, Code Name: Eternity, Canada: A People’s History, Laughter on the 23rd Floor,  Dying to Dance, Jane Doe, Blue Murder, Soul Food, Proteus, Snakes & Ladders, The Unauthorized Full House Story, Barbie in Rock ‘N Royals, Mutant X, Wild Card, Kevin Hill, Four Minutes, Air Emergency, Supernatural and 44 episodes of Pit Pony, the story of the coal miners of the East coast.

Shaun is the recipient of Best Actor winning, Betty Mitchell Award, Calgary Critics Award. Two time winner of the Stratford Festival Tyrone Guthrie Award, Best Actor nominations including Dora Mavor Moore Toronto, Betty Mitchell Calgary, Sterling Edmonton, Saskatchewan. Best supporting nomination Dora Mavor Moore. He has his BFA from the University of Alberta and BA in English from the University of Calgary. He has also studied with Uta Hagen, Joseph Chaikin, Simon McBirney.

Shaun has also taught theatre workshops and, along with tv actor, Juno Rinaldi, he is the Creative Director of the Hamilton Film Centre, a new company providing on camera training.
